Left alone as a puppy, Happy now lives a fulfilling life with Miku's family. He plays with the young child, goes on walks with the energetic Father, and enjoys tasty meals prepared by Mother. Clearly, he is thriving. But when Father falls ill with a prolonged disease, the family's strong bonds begin to weaken. Over time, the family grows more distant—until only Happy and Father remain together. With Father unable to work due to his health, they set a new goal: to travel to the far south. Their journey will have its challenges and joys, but Happy will always be a loyal companion.

A live-action drama movie of the same name was released in 2011.
