Boy's Summer

The narrative opens on a seaside setting, where a young boy strolls across the sand and eventually takes a seat. Vacationers arrive to revel in the ocean, only to depart and leave litter strewn about the shore. The story then cuts abruptly to a hospital office, where an elderly man puffing on a cigar speaks to a slimmer, younger man—touching on cancer, the sums of money at stake, and the possibility that those funds might remain within the family. The scene returns to the boy, who rises, dusts the sand from where he was seated, and heads back home.
