During his childhood, Harada Kishi enjoyed pretending to be a knight and made a vow of eternal loyalty to his chosen princess, his playmate Shirahime Idzunu. Seven years after being uprooted and forced to move away, he eventually reunites with her in high school. His passion for serving as her knight hasn't cooled over the years, kept alive and fueled by otaku knowledge. Unfortunately, the teenage Idzunu bears little resemblance to the princesses his manga and anime taught him to expect. To his astonishment, she even gets offended when he points that out. Yet there is far more to his knightly role than he could have imagined. Idzuru and the other girls are the true recipients of a power called "animus," granted to them by falling stars. That energy has turned them into "Players" holding various titles, and they must gather "Chessmen" to serve as their fighters. Can Kishi hold on to his position as Idzunu's faithful knight?
