The narrative follows Kotobuki-chan, a 14-year-old junior high student, who discovers a fashionable clothing boutique during a shopping trip with friends. She quickly becomes captivated by the shop's owner, Hodaka-san, who not only runs the store but also designs every item sold there. Kotobuki develops a strong crush on him and regularly visits a nearby café across the street to observe him working. One day, Hodaka-san and his two friends arrive at the same café and ask to share Kotobuki's table because no other seats are available. To hide her real age, Kotobuki lies, claiming to be a 20-year-old college student. She worries that 26-year-old Hodaka-san would not feel the same if he knew she was only 14. When his friends ask which of the three she would date, Kotobuki immediately chooses Hodaka-san. They tease her by calling her his girlfriend. After that encounter, Kotobuki spends more time at the boutique, occasionally helping out, while continuing to pretend she is older. Eventually, the truth comes out, creating friction between Kotobuki and Hodaka-san. Given the large age difference, can their relationship overcome this hurdle? Can a junior high student and an adult find any common ground?
