Detective Yokoda is murdered by criminals, but Professor Tani retrieves his body and brings it to his laboratory. After seven previous failed attempts, Tani transfers Yokoda's life force into an android body. This time the experiment succeeds, and Yokoda is reborn as 8 Man—a cybernetic being with superhuman speed and the power to shapeshift into other people. Operating under the alias "Hachiro Azuma," he continues his crusade against crime, hiding his true identity from everyone except Professor Tani and his superior, Chief Tanaka. Even his girlfriend Sachiko and his friend Ichiro are unaware of what he has become. As 8 Man, Hachiro pursues justice, including tracking down the criminals who killed him.
