Fuji, a high school student, frequently misinterprets the meaning behind people's kindness. Believing that his workplace supervisor's worried glances indicate romantic interest leads to a crushing letdown and yet another misunderstanding. One day, as he stands near the train tracks, a passing salaryman yanks him back, mistaking Fuji's posture for an attempt to take his own life. After that incident, Fuji and the older man become friends. But Fuji's developing feelings for his new companion might simply be yet another case of misreading the signs.
