In the depths of an equatorial African jungle, Panja, the white lion known as the "Emperor of the Jungle," meets a tragic end at the hands of a hunter. His mate, the Jungle Queen, is captured and taken aboard a ship to be transported to a zoo. During the voyage, she gives birth to their son, Leo, giving him his name before urging him to escape and reclaim his father's throne back in Africa. When a storm strikes and capsizes the ship, the Queen dies. Leo washes ashore on a beach in a port city on the Arabian Peninsula, beginning his long journey home to Africa.
