High school student Akio Asakura is defeated by a Porsche 911 Turbo known as "Blackbird" during a high-speed race. Hoping to upgrade his own car, he goes to a scrapyard and instead comes across a blue first-generation Datsun Fairlady Z (S30), which he purchases. He soon learns that this vehicle, now called the "Devil Z," has been tuned to produce an incredible 620 bhp and carries a dark past involving the deaths of its previous owners. Adding to the mystery, Akio finds out that his predecessor also shared the name Akio. With the Devil Z, he gets pulled into a fierce rivalry against the Blackbird and its driver, Tatsuya Shima.
