Ninja Bugeichou: Kagemaru Den

This sprawling and iconic ninja epic combines various themes and showcases a large cast. It functions as both a classic samurai story and Shirato's exploration of the role of rebellious peasants in feudal Japan. The story was adapted into a 1966 film directed by Nagisa Oshima. The protagonist, Kagemaru, is a fictional samurai who supports peasants in their fight for survival. He battles against the historical 16th-century warlord Nobunaga Oda.
