Ten years ago, a mysterious darkness began as a small black spot in Tokyo's sky, rapidly expanding to envelop everything and forming what is now called the "Lightless Zone." From this void, creatures known as "Imashime" ("The Warning") appear, hunting humans after nightfall. Humanity's sole defense against these threats are the "Vess"—combat machines armed with weapons capable of halting the Imashime's regenerative abilities. Saginuma Akashi is an exceptionally skilled Vess pilot at the top of their class. Akashi, along with a select few others, has been chosen to form the first battalion tasked with entering the "Lightless Zone."
