Kyurem is a bipedal, draconic Pokémon characterized by a gray and blue body. It features a blue head and snout, yellow pupil-less eyes, and a bioluminescent yellow crest on its skull. Two pointed, light bluish horns protrude from its head, while three sharp teeth jut from the lower jaws, which are sealed shut by ice. Lines run along its long gray neck and entire body, extending to its limbs and tail. It possesses two arms, each ending in two claws, and is connected to oddly shaped blue ice wings via its shoulders. These wings bear two bioluminescent spikes each. If the wings are damaged, gray tendril-like appendages emerge from Kyurem's back. The right side of its body appears damaged, with shorter wings and horns on that side, and a spiked edge near the jaw hinge not present on the left. Its slender legs end in enormous feet with three sharp, ice-like claws, and its tail splits into three backward-pointing spikes arranged in a hollow circle. Lacunosa Town legends describe Kyurem as an extraterrestrial Pokémon that crashed on an icy meteor, possibly a Dragon Stone, creating the Giant Chasm. One tale portrays it as hostile, devouring Pokémon and humans found outside the town at night. Another legend, recounted by an unspecified source, states it was formed from the remnants of a powerful Dragon Pokémon split by the heroes of Truth and Ideals of Unova into Reshiram and Zekrom. Its true origin remains unknown, but it waits for a hero to restore its missing parts with truth or ideals. Kyurem emits extreme cold and generates powerful freezing energy internally, though leakage causes its body to freeze. Its latent power surpasses Reshiram and Zekrom, but is restrained by the cold. To stabilize its cellular structure, it freezes itself. It can use its appendages to transform Reshiram and Zekrom back into Dragon Stones and absofuse with them. In Pokémon Adventures, Kyurem flies despite its frozen wings. The Village of Dragons's Elder considers it one of the strongest Dragon-types in the world, capable of freezing Opelucid City and the entire Unova region. It can also communicate via telepathy and enjoys Kyurem Treats made by Snacksworth. Kyurem has two alternate forms: White Kyurem and Black Kyurem, created by absofusing with Reshiram or Zekrom. These forms share design elements with their partners and align with beliefs in truth or ideals. In Black and White 2, the process involves the wing appendages forcing the partner into a Dragon Stone form before absorption. In Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice, Kyurem can shift forms by channeling the powers of both dragons internally. Both forms have shorter legs with a middle toe encased in ice, and the ice on the jaw retreats to allow the mouth to open. Eyes gain black pupils, contrasting with the base form’s solid yellow ones. A new turbine, colored white or black, attaches to the tail’s hollow center via the spikes. The forms add a third claw and size to the near-vestigial arms, shrinking the tube-wings into shoulder attachments. In battle, tubes extend from the shoulders to the tail turbine to activate Overdrive mode. White Kyurem resembles a hybrid with Reshiram, standing upright unlike the hunched base form. Its tail turbine holes are arranged horizontally. Its torso is slimmer, and its right side (head tuft and arm, excluding the inner elbow) is frozen. Its arms have streaming, wing-like structures, with the left exposing wrist and high cuffs styled like Reshiram’s neckbands. In Overdrive mode, the right arm-wing and hair tuft glow fiery red. It wields fire and ice, striving to protect a foreseen future of truth for humans and Pokémon. Black Kyurem is a hybrid with Zekrom, maintaining a hunched but more upright stance with shorter legs. Zekrom’s black wings appear on its back where the tube-wings were. Mirroring White Kyurem, its left torso, wing, horn, and most of the left arm are covered in ice. The tail turbine holes are vertical. Its torso and arms gain bulk, with Zekrom’s black skin and musculature replacing Kyurem’s gray on the arms and neck. It has three sharp teeth per side, compared to White Kyurem’s two. In Overdrive mode, parts of its right arm and the left horn tip glow blue with electricity. It wields electricity and ice, fighting to protect a foreseen ideal future for humans and Pokémon.
