Summary
Todd made his debut in the anime episode "Paparazzi," where he had recently gained fame for photographing an Aerodactyl thought to be extinct. The image also captured Ash, though he appeared blurred, and the dinosaur had previously attempted to eat the boy. Praised for his ability to "capture any Pokémon on film," Todd was targeted by Team Rocket after Meowth misinterpreted the phrase, leading the trio to disguise themselves and hire him to take a picture of Pikachu. Although Todd’s pursuit of the perfect shot initially annoyed Ash, the two eventually reconciled. Todd accompanied the group briefly before departing in "The Breeding Center Secret," prior to Ash, Misty, and Brock boarding the vessel to Cinnabar Island. He reappeared in the Johto region during "Moving Pictures," attempting to photograph the legendary bird Articuno. After successfully capturing the Legendary Pokémon in the episode "Freeze Frame," Todd continued on his own path. In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Todd works as a reporter and photographer at the Battle Frontier. There, he met the eccentric Emerald, who saved him from a wild Sudowoodo. Todd then followed the events at the Battle Frontier, assisting Emerald alongside Latias and Latios during the crisis. At the conclusion, Professor Oak invited him to join him on an island teeming with Pokémon to photograph them.
