Motoori, Kosuzu
Summary
Kosuzu Motoori is a carefree human girl residing in the Human Village who works at the Suzunaan book rental shop. She has recently acquired the unique ability to decipher any book simply by touching it. Utilizing this power, she reads Youkai books without regard for their dangerous nature. Kosuzu is acquainted with Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame, and Hieda no Akyuu, and serves as the main character of Touhou Suzunaan - Forbidden Scrollery. Youkai books, also known as youma or demon books, are written by youkai. These range from old classics and works intended for humans to grimoires used by magicians, though they most often record a youkai's existence. For youkai whose existence is denied, sealing themselves in a book is the only hope to avoid disappearing from the cycle of reincarnation, allowing them to wait for a chance at revival. Reading such books is hazardous because the recorded youkai may be revived. Since these texts are written in unknown characters, they are unreadable by humans and rare in the Human Village. Kosuzu, however, enjoys collecting them and no longer cares for normal books, proudly claiming to be the number one collector of Youkai books in Gensokyo. Kosuzu Motoori works at the Suzunaan, a traditional Japanese-style book rental shop that also appears to sell and print books. The Gensokyo chronicle (Perfect Memento in Strict Sense) by Hieda no Akyuu was printed there. While the shop primarily deals in books from the outside world, Kosuzu has recently begun secretly collecting Youkai books for the store. This character currently has no assigned voice actors.
