As a close friend and long-term companion of Muten-Rôshi, this kind-hearted turtle resides at the Kame House with the elderly hermit. While his role in the manga is minor, he features more prominently in the anime, including a celebration of his 1,000th birthday in episode 117 during the Dragon Ball Z filler. Originally found lost in the wilderness after wandering on land for over a year while searching for mushrooms, he was kindly helped back to the ocean by Goku, who earned his deep gratitude. Umigame serves as the bridge that introduces Bulma and Son Goku to Muten-Rôshi. Unlike his host, he has no interest in Muten-Rôshi’s lecherous habits, preferring wholesome activities. As one of the first animals Goku befriends, there is a poignant irony in the final Dragon Ball GT episode, where he is among the few characters Goku says goodbye to before departing with Shenlong. His power level is recorded at a mere 0.001, a fact highlighted when Bulma tests Raditz’s scouter during the Vegeta Saga.
