Summary
Koushirou Shimotsuki serves as the father of Kuina and the swordsmanship instructor for Roronoa Zoro. Operating a dojo in the vicinity of Zoro’s childhood home, he was responsible for the young swordsman’s early training. While he primarily appears within flashbacks, he makes a brief reappearance in Chapter 440 when a former student inquires about his connection to Zoro. During this encounter, he encourages Zoro to press forward and achieve his ambitions. Koushirou imparted a specific philosophy to his students, teaching that a swordsman capable of cutting nothing should also possess the ability to slice through steel and any other object. Although he attempted to instruct a young Zoro in this technique, it took until Zoro reached the age of nineteen for him to finally master the skill.
