Summary
Mekao is a seasoned mechanic and shipwright stationed at G-8, known for taking immense pride in his craftsmanship. He forms a friendship with Usopp and ultimately assists the Straw Hat Pirates in their escape from the naval base. His daughter is Dr. Kobato. During the G8 Arc, Usopp recounts the strange occurrences he witnessed beside the Going Merry while in Skypiea. Mekao seems on the verge of explaining the phenomenon to Usopp, but is interrupted and pulled away by Drake. It is widely assumed that Mekao, similar to Franky, recognized the entity as a Klabautermann. However, he refrains from naming it, as the concept had not yet been revealed by the author at that point in the story, with the explanation for Klabautermanns not arriving until the Water 7 Arc.
