Summary
Okubo is one of the three lackeys who follow Kazuma Kuwabara, alongside Kirishima and Sawamura, known as Komada in the English dub. His family situation is strained due to his mother’s frequent illnesses, which prevent her from earning sufficient income, forcing Okubo to work a job to help support the household. He and his friends appear during the Chapter Black Saga, where they attend a Megallica concert with Kuwabara. On their way home, the group is ambushed by Kiyoshi Mitarai, also known as Seaman, and nearly drown inside one of the villain's water-based monsters before being rescued by Kuwabara. In the aftermath, Kuwabara carries both the injured trio and Mitarai on his back to Yusuke Urameshi’s apartment, where he eventually collapses. Once Kirishima, Okubo, and Sawamura explain the incident to Kurama, he decides to erase their memories of the event to spare them the burden, sending them home afterward. In the first character popularity poll, Kirishima placed ninth with 219 votes.
