Summary

Yosaku serves as Zoro’s partner and fellow pirate bounty hunter. Although he carries a sword, his combat skills are rarely showcased following his alliance with Luffy, largely because the pirates they encounter are of significantly lower caliber. Yosaku and Johnny first cross paths with the Straw Hat crew immediately after the Black cat pirates arc. This meeting occurs when the tiny island they are standing on is accidentally blasted by the Going Merry while the crew tests their newly installed cannons. Following this incident, both men are brought aboard the ship, where Yosaku’s scurvy is cured. They remain on the Going Merry for a period since their own vessel was destroyed in the explosion, accompanying the Straw Hats through the Don Krieg and Arlong Park arcs. Eventually, they choose to stay behind in Cocoyashi village to assist the local villagers. Both Yosaku and Johnny appear to have known Zoro for several years prior to his joining the Straw Hats. The anime depicts their initial meeting with Zoro within a dream sequence experienced by Zoro.
