Kanbei
Summary
Kanbei is a renowned gambler known for his ability to perceive fortune using his right eye. Revered as a legendary figure with immense charisma, he goes by the title tsukiyomi no kanbee, which implies that luck readily attaches to him. He first crosses paths with Gintoki and Hasegawa while they are enduring a losing streak. Once he is discovered cheating, the trio is captured by Kujaku Hime and forced to play a game of Mahjong against one of her subordinates. During the match, when questioned about his purported ability to read luck, Kanbei recounts the past event where his eye was compromised. He had surgically removed his luck-reading right eye by his own hand as a necessary sacrifice to rescue a friend who was being held hostage.
