Summary
Kohane is a nine-year-old medium whose supernatural abilities have thrust her into the spotlight of the television industry. Despite her mother’s overprotective demeanor, Kohane is convinced that her parent is solely motivated by her career prospects. The dynamic between them shifted drastically after Kohane first manifested her powers, which she used to uncover her father’s infidelity. This revelation caused her mother to undergo a severe personality change; she ceased physical affection, stopped using Kohane’s name, and isolated herself from society. Her mother became obsessed with maintaining a notion of purity, discarding any food or objects she deemed impure, while simultaneously pushing Kohane to appear on as many TV shows as possible and accumulating extravagant possessions. This harsh and isolating upbringing has left Kohane with a quiet, lonely disposition. She strives to remain strong for her mother’s sake, internalizing the blame for the family’s dysfunction. Initially, Kohane possessed only the ability to see spirits. However, after receiving one of Sakura’s feathers, she gained the power of purification. She eventually surrendered this power to Yūko in exchange for a wish for happiness. Yūko collected the feather within Kohane as payment, granting the wish by resolving external issues like her public reputation. However, Yūko could not repair the fractured relationship with her mother, as true character change requires personal will.
