Holy Roman Empire
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
The grandson of Germania, this character harbored romantic feelings for Italy, whom he mistakenly believed to be a girl. He resided for a time with Austria, Hungary, and Italy, during which period he resolved to collaborate with Italy to reconstruct a new Roman Empire. Italy declined the proposal, fearing that Holy Rome would suffer the same beaten and fatal injuries as his grandfather. Following the onset of the Thirty Years War, Holy Rome vanished and was presumed dead. Prior to his disappearance, he bid farewell to Italy, who gave him her panties—changed to a deck brush in the anime adaptation—as a memento. Although the two never reunited, mangaka Hidekaz Himaruya has promised a happy ending for their story, though the details remain unrevealed. Despite possessing considerable strength, Holy Rome suffered from a fragile constitution. His devotion to Italy was so profound that he did not care when his empire crumbled. He displayed a short temper but could be kind when he chose to be. While he lacked artistic talent, he was highly intelligent, a trait attributed to Austria forcing him to study constantly. According to Himaruya, both Holy Rome and Chibitalia are seven apples tall, which translates to approximately 90 centimeters or 3’0”. In the English dub of the anime, he was given an Italian accent, a choice fans noted as historically inaccurate given his Germanic lineage. However, since the Holy Roman Empire consisted of various ethnic territories without a single official language, either accent could be considered plausible.
