Mildrake, Monica
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
Monica is the assertive, unpredictable, and straightforward older sister of Mildrake, standing in stark contrast to her sibling’s demeanor. She is known for voicing her thoughts without regard for how they are received. Defying the conventions of her social status, she adopts a masculine presentation, riding astride rather than sidesaddle, and frequently wears a top hat while carrying a cane, making her anything but a traditional lady. She is married to Frederick Mildrake, a naive and clueless man. Although she lacks romantic feelings for him, she chose him because his passion exceeded that of other suitors. Despite her self-centered nature, Monica possesses a tender side reserved exclusively for her younger sister, whom she protects fiercely. Her relationship with William sours after she discovers he is courting Eleanor. Monica despises him, believing he fails to value Eleanor as she does and suspects his motives are purely financial. She views his behavior as shameless and an insult to both Eleanor and the Campbell family. Following William’s proposal to Eleanor, Monica becomes deeply distressed and travels to India. During her stay, she embraces traditional attire, continuing to wear saris and accessories like bracelets and armlets even after returning to England. This fashion choice leads to a conflict with her father, who demands she move out if she refuses to change. This incident highlights her growing aversion to her father, whose open infidelity she strongly dislikes.
