Fuyutsuki, Azusa

Summary

Azusa Fuyutsuki is a 22-year-old beautiful female teacher who, unlike Onizuka, led a relatively normal life before graduating from Waseda University. While her quiet manner and moderate ideas can be misleading, she proves to be incredibly tough, capable of frightening even the rough Onizuka. To prepare him for the examination that would determine his teaching career, she constructs a mountain of jelly topped with Maguro tuna fish eyes as fruit and imposes an impossibly grueling schedule that would drive most people mad or kill them. Her field of teaching is Kokugo, or Japanese language, though this is depicted as English in the Live Action adaptation. Not surprisingly, she falls in love with Onizuka, yet both remain reluctant to openly admit or display their feelings, insisting to others that they are merely "friends." This situation is only a major issue for Suguru Teshigawara, who finds it aggravating that a woman with her qualifications would fall for someone with Onizuka's crude background. Azusa initially struggles with the female students in her class because all the boys have crushes on her, but she manages to bring them around fairly quickly following Onizuka's advice. She has a younger sister named Makoto. The Azusa Fuyutsuki portrayed in the live action drama differs greatly from the anime and manga versions. In this iteration, she became a teacher because she felt forced into it, envying the life of her sister, who became a stewardess frequently dating male celebrities and receiving fancy gifts. She eventually decides to remain a teacher thanks to some convincing from Onizuka, although the two are continuously depicted as being at odds with each other with love strongly implied. This version of Fuyutsuki also harbors a general dislike for men, finding them too possessive over women, until Onizuka convinces her that she is guilty of the same sin. Interestingly, she is also present for many of the "lessons" that Onizuka personally teaches his students.
