Summary
Shinichi is the central protagonist of the manga, portrayed as a thoughtful and compassionate high school student whose hand is infected with a Parasite. Throughout the series, he is repeatedly thrust into difficult situations, forcing him to find a way to peacefully coexist with Migi, the Parasite that has taken over his right hand. He must constantly reconcile his desire to protect humanity from the other Parasites with his need to keep his own Parasite a secret to avoid being killed or used as a laboratory specimen. Much like a superhero with a secret identity, Shinichi struggles to explain away his Parasite-fighting activities, as well as the stress and grief they cause him, to his friends and family. Because he retains a human mind, emotions, and sensibilities, other Parasites view him as a threat. Together with Migi, he must defend himself from their attacks, leveraging their ability to think and act independently and as a team to gain a tactical edge over normal Parasites.
