Tokugawa, Hidetada

Summary

Benitora is the secret identity of Tokugawa Hidetada, the son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. While his father commanded him to spy on Kyo, Benitora treats the mission as entertainment and acts as the group's comic relief. He wields the Hokuraku Shimon, a Demon Spear forged by Muramasa, and becomes instantly smitten with Yuya upon meeting her, often displaying overprotective behavior. To conceal his true status as the heir to the Shogunate from her, he deliberately adopts a distinct Kansai accent in her presence. He encounters Kyoshiro in volume 2, initially confusing him with Kyo. After a sparring match, Benitora chooses to join the group. When Kyo awakens in volume 3, he defeats Benitora in a brief skirmish and appoints him as his number two servant. During the Forest Arc, Benitora battles Mekira II, a former disciple of his master. Although Mekira gains the advantage through a hypnotic technique, Benitora sees through the deception and defeats Mekira with a unique technique, though this victory worsens his existing injuries. When Nobunaga returns and overwhelms Kyo, Benitora intervenes to block the fatal blow, engaging Nobunaga in single combat. He is vastly outmatched but manages to unhorse his opponent using a secret technique known as the reverse Hassun, nearly costing him his life. He is rescued from Nobunaga by the restored Kyo. In the Mibu Arc, Benitora plays a crucial role by defeating Taihaku, the leader of Goyosei. He also fights against the Crimson Tower army while his friend Akira battles Tokito. In the final confrontation, he and Sasuke successfully retrieve the Crimson King heart. In the bonus chapter, Benitora continues his studies to lead Japan in the future, with Mahiro by his side. It is suggested during his fight against the real Kubira that his true romantic feelings are for Mahiro rather than Yuya.
