Summary
Tokiya Mikagami is a sixteen-year-old second-year student at Nashikiri High School, born on November 13 under the Scorpio zodiac sign with blood type A. He wields the madogu Ensui, a sword made of dark water that allows him to manipulate water in its liquid, solid, and gaseous states. While peers typically address him by his surname, his companions have coined nicknames for him such as "Mi-chan" and "Mi-bo." He practices the Hyomon Ken style, which was designed specifically for the Ensui and the Hyoma En, a madogu focused on solid water. Driven by the trauma of witnessing his sister, Mifuyu Mikagami, murdered in his youth, Tokiya sought to rescue Yanagi from Recca because she resembled Mifuyu. He allied with Recca to save Yanagi from Mori Koran’s mansion and remained a member of their team for the remainder of the series. Initially, Tokiya appears callous and aloof, frequently insulting the intelligence and abilities of his teammates. He is fiercely protective of Yanagi and, in the manga, harbors romantic feelings for her. Despite his cruel and ruthless demeanor, which even antagonists Kurei and Mikoto acknowledge, he is praised for his intellect and composure in combat, with some believing he is the strongest Hokage member in standard battles. There are notable discrepancies between the anime and manga portrayals of Tokiya. His hair is light blue in the manga and games but brown in the anime. Additionally, while a manga filler page lists his age as sixteen, the Flame of Recca Original Soundtrack Vol. 2 booklet lists it as seventeen. His character development is more pronounced in the manga, where he gradually becomes open to emotions beyond vengeance, a shift he attributes to his interactions with Kai, a fellow Hyomon Ken practitioner, and his friends.
