Summary

Dr. Gero transformed himself into a cyborg by transferring his brain into a robotic chassis. He initially surfaced alongside Android #19 with the intent of assassinating Goku. However, after Vegeta destroyed #19, Gero fled in terror, aiming to activate Android #17 and #18. Upon their activation, the androids immediately revolted against their creator, with #17 decapitating and crushing his head. Following the defeat of the Red Ribbon Army by Goku, Dr. Gero retreated to a laboratory hidden in a mountainous region north of North City. There, he dedicated himself to constructing the ultimate fighting machine. For years, he monitored Goku and the Z Fighters using a highly advanced tracking device disguised as a ladybug, observing Goku’s battles against Tien Shinhan, King Piccolo, Piccolo, and the Saiyans Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta. When the Saiyans departed for Namek, Gero concluded his surveillance, believing he had gathered sufficient data. He merely adjusted the androids' power levels to account for Goku's anticipated growth, failing to anticipate the emergence of the Super Saiyan form. Convinced he had succeeded in creating the perfect combat units, he finalized his project. Android 16 was modeled after Gero’s deceased son, a high-ranking Red Ribbon soldier killed by an enemy bullet long ago. Out of affection, Gero endowed him with great strength but imbued him with a gentle nature to prevent his destruction in battle. While seeking fresh subjects for his experiments, Gero encountered two notorious delinquent siblings, a boy and a girl. He abducted them and reconstructed them as Android 17 and Android 18. However, because they retained their human free will, the two proved rebellious, forcing Gero to deactivate them.
