Asakura Hao, born Asaha Douji in Izumo, Japan, during the Heian era, serves as the primary antagonist in Shaman King. Known as the Leaf King, he is the most powerful shaman in the series, possessing a Furyoku Level of 1.250.000 and Guardian Ghosts including Ohachiyo. His early life is detailed in the side story Mappa Douji. In his first incarnation, Hao endured the horrors of war, viewing the world as grim until the demon Ohachiyo taught him life’s positive aspects. An accident involving his first Over Soul merged Ohachiyo with Hao, cursing him with the dangerous ability of Reishi. As an adult, he was a peaceful man who helped others, leading the Asakura Family to prosperity. His gentle nature led him to take in the cat Matamune, who became his only friend. However, his Reishi abilities grew uncontrollable, overwhelming him with the negative emotions of others. This deluge of negativity created a demon within his heart, driving him to seek the title of Shaman King to establish a shaman-only kingdom. In his third life, Hao is the twin brother of his descendant, Asakura Yoh. He is typically calm, cruel, and smiling, rarely showing anger. When angered, he kills and burns victims’ souls using the Spirit Of Fire. He enjoys watching Shaman Fights, particularly those involving strong shamans and Yoh, claiming he will eat Yoh when he reaches his limit to become the strongest. Hao dislikes family titles, having glared at Yoh for calling him "Nii-chan" in the final chapter and darkening in mood when his nephew, Asakura Hana, called him Uncle Hao, instructing both not to use those terms.
