Karibusa, Tanyuu

Summary

Long ago, a unique and forbidden mushi existed that indiscriminately destroyed everything in its path. A mushishi from the Karibusa family sealed this entity within herself, which turned her skin the color of ink and ultimately claimed her life, though she managed to have a child before dying. Since then, the curse has passed through the Karibusa lineage, appearing once every other generation. Those who carry it suffer from blackened, useless portions of their bodies, but they have learned to bind the forbidden mushi. By listening to accounts of other mushi dying, they can subdue the entity and use their ink-like marks to write these stories, thereby sealing the forbidden mushi away on paper. This role is known as the Recorders, and they reside in an isolated house with their archives, visited only by family members and mushishi. Karibusa Tanyuu serves as the fourth Recorder. Her curse is located on her right leg, forcing her to navigate on crutches and hop on one foot, yet she has become highly skilled at moving this way. Despite the constant pain inflicted by the forbidden mushi, she holds a deep love and respect for mushi and all forms of life. She is both proud and kind, making her exceptionally effective at her duties. Her ultimate desire is to complete the sealing of the forbidden mushi so she can finally be freed to travel with Ginko.
