Summary
Tsuru-Sen'nin, also known as the Crane Hermit, serves as the older brother of Tao Pai Pai and the master of Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu. In the 1980s Harmony Gold English dub, he was referred to as Lord Wu Zu, while Funimation’s version identifies him as Master Shen. He shares a past with Kame-Sen'nin, having studied together at the same Martial Arts school. After their mentor and sensei, Mutaito, sacrificed himself to seal away the evil Piccolo Daimaō, the two former comrades diverged. While Kame-Sen'nin remained true to their teacher’s ways, Tsuru-Sen'nin allowed bitterness and resentment to fester, leading him to abandon his master’s teachings. He subsequently founded his own school, where he instilled his growing hatred of the world into his students. During the 22nd Tenka'ichi Budōkai, he entered Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu into the tournament specifically to oppose Kame-Sen'nin’s disciples, who were Goku, Kuririn, and Yamcha.
