Summary
Kaya is a wealthy young woman who inherits a vast fortune following the death of her parents. Due to her frail health, she is cared for by Klahadore, a man her father had taken in three years prior after finding him near death on their doorstep. While recovering, Kaya finds solace in the company of Usopp, a habitual liar who climbs a tree outside her window to tell entertaining tall tales that lift her spirits. Klahadore strongly disapproves of this friendship and eventually drives Usopp away by convincing Kaya that he is a bad influence. The truth is revealed when Usopp overhears Klahadore conversing with Jango, a hypnotist. It turns out that Klahadore is actually Captain Kuro, who has spent the last three years gaining the trust of both Kaya and the village to execute a plot to murder Kaya and steal her inheritance. When Usopp attempts to expose the conspiracy, Kaya refuses to believe him and rebukes his claims. After Kuro is defeated, Kaya comes to realize the truth and gifts the Straw Hats the Going Merry. She later appears in manga chapter 440, where she discovers Usopp’s Sogeking bounty poster. She and the former Usopp Pirates recognize him immediately by his distinctive nose. Kaya expresses her desire to further her medical studies, anticipating that Usopp will return injured from his adventures and hoping to provide him with care. Meanwhile, his former crewmates declare their intention to beat him up if he ever causes Kaya to cry.
