Tan, Chamka
Summary
Tan Chamka, also known as Tomite, is the second Seishi and a sixteen-year-old boy born on February 14 in the Ha Tribe of Hokkan. Standing 173cm tall with blood type O and a Void 'Xu' constellation, he is characterized by a brash exterior that masks a naive and shy nature. His family follows a traditional nomadic lifestyle, though they suffer from bandit attacks and the encroaching tension of the invading Kutou armies. The trauma of losing his father to mou, or mountain monsters, at a young age has left him struggling to cope, making his mother incredibly precious to him as he has no siblings. He originally ventured out to hunt bounties, specifically targeting Rimudo, to earn money for his family. During this time, he took Takiko hostage as bait at her suggestion, though he eventually agreed to protect her, a role that does not bother him. His difficult yet happy life within the Ha tribe serves as an inspiration for Takiko to accept her duties as Priestess. Tomite is a skilled archer known for his speed and accuracy, but his true strength lies in his ability to manipulate ice. He is reluctant to display this power due to fear of judgment, using it only in dire situations, though its profound nature is evident when he does. His ice abilities first manifested when he was fifteen, during a monster attack that injured his mother. He initially blamed Hikitsu for the incident and has vague memories of the event until Hikitsu forces him to relive the truth. In the original Fushigi Yuugi, he could also generate energy rings to constrict and cut enemies in half, a feat not yet seen in the Genbu Kaiden. At his core, Tomite is an awkward and silly teenager. He harbored a small crush on Takiko but stepped back when he realized it was not reciprocated. He was initially confused and hurt by her one-sided infatuation with Rimudo, who frequently threatened her life and showed no interest in return, but he has grown content to support her as a strong and devout Seishi as her relationship with Rimudo stabilizes. Tomite has a prior connection with Hikitsu, having known him as children, and they share a comfortable dynamic. Upon reuniting, they form a pact of brotherhood, reinforcing the ancient alliance between their tribes. He feels awkward around Hikitsu’s sister, Aila, who has an unrequited crush on him, especially given Hikitsu’s overprotective presence. Two hundred years in the future, his ghost remains in the temple housing the Shinzahou, standing guard alongside Hikitsu to protect the final manifestation of Genbu’s power.
