Ashiya, Douman

Ashiya, Douman

Summary

Ashiya Douman was a Buddhist Onmyouji during the Heian period, primarily recognized as the rival of Abe-no-Seimei. Also known as Douma Houshi or Sangha Douman, he bore the epithet Beautiful Carnivore, the All-Ridiculing. Although he began with a cooperative relationship with Seimei of the Bureau of Onmyou, Douman eventually regarded them as enemies and frequently opposed them. As a Buddhist priest, he stood in opposition to the government, engaging in schemes such as cursing Fujiwara no Michinaga with the assistance of Fujiwara no Akimitsu. During an era defined by mystery, the clashes between the two masters of spells were considered astounding. Legends claim that Douman died multiple times, having achieved pseudo-immortality by mastering the secret arts of Hakudou Jounin. Upon ascending to the Throne of Heroes, he was classified as an Anti-Hero whose unscrupulous actions harmed others, with his death ultimately leading society to peace and tranquillity. When summoned by the Alien God, Alter Ego Douman, also known as Alter Ego Limbo, was not an exact replica of the living Ashiya Douman but rather described as a caricaturized aspect of that existence. While not a complete representation, accounts by Murasaki Shikibu suggest they shared similar inhuman nature and untrustworthiness. He modified himself into a High-Servant by incorporating three component spirits into his Saint Graph. After being defeated and summoned to the Chaldea Security Organization, he feigned ignorance, acting confused about his Alter Ego Saint Graph and pretending to have no memory of prior activities. Since he was actually summoned with records of antagonizing Chaldea, it remains unclear whether this was due to a karmic bond, the Greater History of Man summoning him without regard for history, or the wish of Douman himself, despite no confirmation that summonings are influenced by the wills of Heroic Spirits.
