Summary
Barma, Rufus is the final of the four dukes and holds the distinction of being the oldest among them at sixty-seven years old. Born on April 1, he is a figure of immense knowledge, possessing information on nearly every subject and an intimate understanding of people’s personalities that allows him to predict their reactions with precision. He harbors a deep hatred for individuals who change without his prior knowledge, as such shifts render his data obsolete. When Oz and his companions seek information regarding the Tragedy of Sabrié, they encounter Rufus, who initially appears as a stout man with a large mustache wearing a hat shaped like a teacup. This form is later revealed to be an illusion created by the real Rufus, who possesses long red hair, weary eyes, and an old-fashioned manner of speech, after being destroyed by Break. Although Oz approached him to uncover secrets about Sabrié, the encounter instead sheds light on Break’s past. Rufus shares a history with Sheryl Rainsworth, the grandmother of Shalon, noting that she was his childhood friend and, according to one of the omakes, his first love, a fact that ended in a cold rejection.
