Summary
Hiroshi Tateno serves as the primary male student protagonist in the series and acts as one of Nube’s most vocal supporters. Arriving at Doumori Elementary as a transfer student at the beginning of the manga, he initially doubts his teacher’s claims regarding exorcism, but his skepticism vanishes after repeatedly being rescued from various spiritual incidents. Embodying the archetype of the brave and heroic shounen lead, Hiroshi is always ready to confront obstacles, regardless of whether they are human, yokai, or logical. His favorite hobby is playing soccer for his school. However, his character is defined by a significant lack of intelligence, resulting in some of the lowest grades in Nube’s class and even setting a record for scoring one hundred consecutive zeros on tests. This dim-wittedness leads to absurd comments and frequently lands him in trouble with yokai; for instance, he once wet his pants after being frightened by a ghost in a restroom. His name pays homage to the main male lead of Dokonjyou Gaeru, a classic 1970s Weekly Shounen Jump series that influenced the creators, Shou and Okano, for Nube.
