Summary
Ryuk is the original Shinigami who dropped a Death Note into the human realm, an act driven by pure boredom that set the events of the story in motion. He has a fondness for apples, the human world, chaos, and Misa, while disliking boredom, a lack of apples, and relapse. When Light picked up the notebook, Ryuk watched with amusement, maintaining a neutral stance that often leads him to refuse assistance, preferring instead to observe Light’s struggles. He is not Light’s friend but acts solely for his own entertainment and interests, frequently withholding crucial information about the Death Note. Although selfish, he may aid Light if it provides him with amusement or ensures a steady supply of apples.
