Summary
Matsuri stands out as one of the inaugural students at the Sunagakure ninja academy, an institution established with the Konoha model in mind. She selects Gaara as her instructor, a decision made despite his continued reputation within the village as a living weapon. When the time comes for her to begin combat training, Gaara advises her to wield a jouhyou, citing it as the safest choice among the available options. Although the traumatic murders of her parents initially instill a deep fear of weapons in her, this hesitation fades once she recognizes their potential for aiding others. As a filler character from the original series, she is the first of her kind to appear in Naruto: Shippuden, joining a Sunagakure rescue squad dispatched to save Gaara following his capture. During the timeskip, her personality becomes more outspoken; she voices complaints when her team focuses on guarding the village borders instead of pursuing Gaara’s rescue. She later reappears during the events of Gaara’s revival, openly praising him and taking pride in the strength of his powers.
