Kazama, Ushio
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
Ushio is Sumika’s lifelong best friend, remaining entirely oblivious to the protagonist’s romantic feelings for her. Although she eventually recognizes that Sumika is in love, she feels guilty for not realizing it sooner, though she fails to understand that the object of Sumika’s affection is herself. Ushio has explicitly stated that Sumika is not her type, preferring girls who are cute, small, feminine, and innocently curious—traits that evoke a desire to protect, which Sumika lacks. Consequently, Ushio repeatedly falls for women like this only to have her crushes go unrequited, leaving Sumika to console her after each heartbreak. Ushio secretly wishes for a girl to return her feelings, but her mood improves when a lesbian couple in her class establishes the Girls Club for women interested in women. She and Sumika join, along with Kiyori, Sumika’s straight friend, who participates simply to help them meet the minimum membership requirement. Ushio resides with her brother, a yuri novelist, in a messy household because her parents are described as "gone." While the specifics of their absence are not detailed, she appears to have largely moved past whatever tragedy occurred.
