Arceus

Summary

Arceus is an androgynous, white, equine Pokémon resembling a qilin or centaur, featuring a gray, vertically striated underside that extends to its mane, tail, and face. Its long mane fans out from its head, while its gray face displays green eyes with red pupils and a green circular pattern beneath them. A golden streak points upward on its head, and its long neck features side extrusions and a white flap underneath. Four pointed feet end in gold hooves, and its limbs have gray undersides with additional extrusions. Attached to its round abdomen is a golden, cross-like wheel adorned with four green jewels. Capable of flight, Arceus’s tail mirrors the shape and color of its mane. Sinnoh mythology recounts that Arceus hatched from a single Egg emerging from a chaotic vortex predating the universe. Using its 1,000 arms, it shaped the cosmos, including the Sinnoh (formerly Hisui) and Ransei regions. It created the Eggs for mythical Pokémon and lake guardians, which it can recreate at will. Known as the "Original One," it is the oldest Pokémon. Arceus banished Giratina to the Distortion World and empowered the lake guardians to calm Dialga or Palkia if they became enraged. It resides in a dimension beyond time and space, appearing as a golden silhouette. Arceus spoke in its film debut, clarifying that "Arceus" is merely the human name for it. Ancient Sinnoh worshipped it as "almighty Sinnoh," a term that named the region. The Diamond and Pearl Clans mistakenly revered Dialga and Palkia as Arceus, and these Pokémon’s Origin Formes resemble Arceus to mimic its power. Professor Laventon described it as the "heavenly fount" of Hisui and the protector of all Pokémon, with the Origin Ore said to hold its power. In Arceus and the Jewel of Life, Arceus is shown caring for the planet, protecting it from meteors and showing gratitude to the kind. However, it holds long grudges and attacks violently if betrayed. It watches over the world today, encouraging cooperation and offering hints rather than direct intervention. It blesses Pokémon with bolts of light, enhancing their size and power, a blessing passed down to the noble and ride Pokémon of Hisui. Arceus possesses immense powers, including reversing destruction, halting time, and altering nature. In the film, it used Plates to create the Jewel of Life, transforming desolate land into fertile ground. In Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, it stopped a space-time void. In Pokémon Journeys, it calmed Dialga and Palkia and destroyed the Red Chain. It can split itself to exist outside its realm, transform smartphones into Arc Phones in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, appear in dreams, and create challenges in Eternal Battle Reverie. In Pokémon Masters EX, it grants worthy trainers arc suits and divine moves via sync stones. Arceus has eighteen forms, one for each type. Through its Multitype Ability, holding a Plate or Z-Crystal changes its type, altering the colors of its eyes, underbelly, face, hooves, snout, gems, and wheel. In the film, it is stated to feed on Plate energy. In Alola, the Aether Foundation used myths from Canalave City’s library to create Type: Full, equipped with the RKS System to simulate Multitype. Designed to protect Alola from Ultra Beasts, the project was abandoned, and Type: Null was sealed with a control helmet. Gladion renamed it Silvally, reawakening its powers through their bond.
