Known as the Knight of the Azure Sky, Balmung holds titles bestowed by the web poet W.B. Yates, also known as Hokuto: "Souten no Balmung" and "Descendant of Fianna." As one of the most powerful entities within The World and an original .hacker, he has been active long before other notable figures. In .hack//UdeDen, he was appointed as a System Admin by CC Corp, where he orchestrated bizarre events for players following the conclusion of the final episode of .hack//SIGN, titled UNISON. His class is Blademaster, with a sub-class of System Administrator, and he utilizes an angelic-knight avatar. However, he is dismissed from his administrative role in the second book. Balmung tends to take on more responsibilities than he can manage, often delegating tasks to his assistant Reki and falling asleep at his computer with his character left in a napping position.
