Ogasawara, Sachiko
Summary
Sachiko Ogasawara is a prim and elegant young woman who balances a refined exterior with a rougher edge and a deeply sweet nature. She is fiercely protective of her younger sister, Fukuzawa Yumi, though she often mirrors Yumi’s tendency to withhold her own troubles, leading to significant misunderstandings between them. Sachiko is engaged to her cousin, Suguru, with whom she has a complicated dynamic; while she initially harbored deep feelings for him, his lack of reciprocation has caused her considerable distress. Her sheltered upbringing sometimes requires Yumi to guide her through informal aspects of life, such as choosing her first pair of jeans. Beneath her stern demeanor, Sachiko grapples with insecurities stemming from her family environment. Her father and grandfather openly maintain mistresses, a behavior that has fostered a general disdain for men in Sachiko, a trait notably displayed during a meeting with the student council of the all-boys Hanadera High School. As a member of the Rosa Chinensis sisterhood, she began her journey as Rosa Chinensis en bouton under the guidance of her grand soeur, Mizuno Youko, with Yumi serving as her petite soeur. Upon entering her third year, Sachiko ascends to the position of Rosa Chinensis. Her relationship with Yumi shifts as she begins spending more time with Touko, which triggers jealousy in Yumi. Sachiko’s subsequent absence from school worries Yumi, leading to a visit to her grandmother’s residence where the tragic news of her grandmother’s death is revealed. This loss plunges Sachiko into depression, prompting her to apologize for her recent behavior and seek forgiveness, a moment met with Yumi’s affirmation of her love. During the summer holidays, Sachiko takes Yumi to her summer home, where they encounter troublesome acquaintances who invite them to a party. There, Yumi performs the song "Maria-sama no Kokoro" while Sachiko accompanies her on the piano, delighting Sachiko’s great grandmother, who asks Yumi to return the following year.
