Summary
Hyakkimaru serves as the protagonist of Tezuka’s renowned samurai narrative, Dororo. A formidable fighter, he embarks on a grueling journey to reclaim the 48 components of his body that his father sacrificed to demons at his birth. The story is a dramatic adventure featuring an array of bizarre mythological beings, yokai, bandits, and other dangerous adversaries. As his travels expose him to harsh realities, Hyakkimaru grows increasingly cold and detached. Ironically, as he physically regains more of his human form, he simultaneously loses his humanity.
