Sunbeam, Kafka
Summary
Kafka is a quiet, intelligent, and easy-going man in his early thirties who serves as the book keeper for Umagon. In contrast to Gash’s other companions, Tio and Kanchome, whose book keepers are celebrities, Kafka is an automobile engineer who traveled from Germany to Japan, paralleling Umagon’s move from England to Japan. Their first encounter occurs when a dog steals Kafka’s book; he calmly retrieves it and keeps it until they reunite at the Devolo Ruins to battle Dalmos. It is later revealed that Dr. Riddles requested Kafka’s presence, which explains the note he left for Kiyomaro regarding the location of Zofis' ruin-base. During the Faudo arc, Kafka develops feelings for Elle Chivas. He adheres to a personal philosophy of being a "cool adult," and his refusal to abandon Umagon or his friends aligns with this principle, quickly earning their trust and friendship. He frequently uses lingo and often incorporates the word "groovy" into his speech.
