Summary
Gine is a female Saiyan who serves as the wife of Bardock and the mother of Raditz and Kakarrot, also known as Gokuu. True to Saiyan naming conventions, her name derives from a vegetable, specifically the spring onion, or negi in Japanese. Her existence was first acknowledged within the original Dragon Ball manga when Raditz informs Gokuu of their parents' demise along with planet Vegeta, and subsequently when Vegeta begs for Freeza's destruction. The character officially made her debut in an interview with creator Akira Toriyama published in the March 2014 issue of Saikyō Jump, which was released in February 2014. Her visual design was subsequently revealed in Dragon Ball Minus, a short story included in the collected volume of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, released on April 4, 2014.
