Jackal

Summary

Jackal leads a bandit gang, relying on concealed blades and explosives for combat. More intelligent and cautious than typical outlaws, he adheres to the motto that surviving in this age requires avoiding fights with those stronger than oneself. Consequently, he is wary of Kenshirō’s true power and prefers underhanded tactics to avoid direct confrontation. Initially seen as a bar patron watching his goons battle Kenshirō after they provoke him, Jackal overhears Taki seeking aid for his adoptive mother, Toyo. Tempted by the prospect of a village with a functional well, he chooses to observe from afar, hoping to strike once Kenshirō departs. While some of his minions attack immediately and are slaughtered, alerting Kenshirō to greater threats, Jackal waits. After Kenshirō leaves with Bat and Rin following the digging of a new well, Jackal launches a full-scale assault, narrowly escaping death by Toyo’s rifle. Enraged, he stabs the old woman and, following advice from his new lieutenant Fox, threatens to hang the orphans in her care one by one. Kenshirō’s return forces the gang to flee, but Jackal leaves dynamite strapped to several children for Kenshirō to discover. This results in Toyo’s mortal wounds as she shields a child from the bomb. Hunted by an infuriated Kenshirō, Jackal escapes into Villainy Prison and deceives the monster Devil Rebirth into believing they are brothers, gaining a powerful ally. However, Kenshirō defeats Devil, who accidentally pins Jackal down when asking for his brother’s help. Both are subsequently blown up by Jackal’s own dynamite.
