Black

Black

Summary

Black is a young man driven by the lifelong ambition of becoming the Champion of the Unova Pokémon League, a goal he has pursued for nine years. This singular focus often overwhelms his mind to the point of exhaustion, prompting him to use his Munna to consume his dreams. He describes this process as transforming his mental state from "blank white" to "solid black," a shift that enhances his clarity, intelligence, and perception, although it reportedly alters his vision to see in hexagons. While this dream-centric mindset allows for sharp thinking, it also leads him to act impulsively without considering the consequences for others. As the story progresses, he gradually learns to consider the feelings of those around him and manage his thoughts more effectively. Several characters describe Black as "hot blooded" due to his loud demeanor and independent nature. He lacks an understanding of show business, which surprises him with details like Gigi and Tep staying in a hotel room while he and White camp outside. His frequent childhood visits to libraries have made him highly familiar with them, enabling him to solve Lenora's Gym puzzle quickly and set a new record. However, his tendency to dream causes him to overlook his surroundings, such as forgetting a promise to his friends Cheren and Bianca after receiving the package containing their Pokémon and Pokédexes.
