He is characterized by an easy-going and mellow personality that contrasts sharply with the Fourth Raikage’s dramatic flair; for instance, he casually notes he will simply use the door rather than crashing through a window. Despite this laid-back demeanor, he is far from lazy and will swiftly defend the Raikage if other Kage’s bodyguards overreact. Darui has a habit of describing events as "dull," a playful nod to his name, and is notably apologetic, often saying "sorry" as frequently as "dull" and even apologizing for the actions of others, a trait he remains oblivious to. He is deeply loyal to the Raikage, addressing him as "boss" instead of "Raikage-sama," and is regarded by the Raikage as his "second right hand." Physically, Darui is fairly tall with dark skin, a slightly bulbous nose, and a lazy expression in his eyes. His white, shaggy hair covers the left side of his face. He wears the standard Kumogakure Jōnin attire, consisting of a high-collared sleeveless uniform, loose-fitting pants, and a one-strap-over-one-shoulder Flak Jacket. His right and left shoulders bear stylized tattoos of the characters for Water (水) and Lightning (雷), respectively, indicating his chakra elemental affinities. He was also skilled enough to disarm Ginkaku and Kinkaku during their battle, knocking Ginkaku into Kinkaku's Kōkinjō while swiftly seizing the Shichiseiken and Benihisago. Darui is proficient in both Water Release and Lightning Release, capable of executing two separate techniques of these natures simultaneously. He combines Lightning Release: Wave of Inspiration with water-based jutsus to conduct electricity through the water, making the attacks deadlier.
