Summary
Shinobu Okudaira is Akira’s university-attending older brother, a role that defines him through an intense, often irritating protectiveness. He frequently drives his sister around, a habit that generates significant annoyance in Akira, who chafes under his watchful eye. Shinobu dedicates substantial amounts of his free time to shadowing her, a behavior that frustrates both Akira and their mother. His mother frequently advises him to establish his own life before becoming so consumed by her well-being, though Shinobu dismisses this by claiming his behavior is mild compared to their father’s. Despite his enthusiastic volunteering to chaperone Akira and her friends, he finds the group exhausting. He views the girls as tiresome, with the exception of Fumi, whose quieter demeanor contrasts with the others. His perspective shifts after a conversation with Yasuko reveals that Fumi is a lesbian, a fact that surprises him. While he displays a mild curiosity toward Kyouko, it lacks romantic attraction. Shinobu remains gruff with any males interacting with Akira, specifically keeping a close watch on Sawanoi Kou, whom he suspects of harboring designs on his sister. Eventually, he begins dating Miwa "Mogi" Motegi, a schoolmate of Fumi.
