Terada, Yoshiyuki
Summary
Yoshiyuki Terada serves as the homeroom teacher for his students at Tomoeda Elementary School as they advance from fourth to fifth grade. Beyond his primary classroom duties, he instructs physical education and accompanies the class on various field trips as a chaperone. In the manga, he is revealed to be in a romantic relationship with his student, Rika Sasaki. The couple becomes engaged after he gifts her a ring, expressing his hope that it will one day serve as their wedding band. In return, Rika presents him with a teddy bear she crafted and named after herself, a gift that legends suggest will ensure their love endures forever. Near the conclusion of the story, when Sakura is confused about her feelings for Li, the couple is seen having a picnic in a park, where Terada deliberately steps aside so Sakura will not see him. Throughout the series, their relationship remains a secret from the other characters, although Sakura hears Rika call out "Sensei" when the Sword card uses an illusion to display Rika’s deepest affection. The anime adaptation portrays their bond differently, omitting the engagement and romantic scenes. Instead, Rika states that Terada reminds her of her absent father, and he accepts her gifts while praising her as his hardest working student. In the English dub of Cardcaptors, he is addressed only as Mr. Terada, and all romantic elements are removed, reframing Rika’s shyness and reactions to him as a general fear of men rather than affection.
