Summary
Rui Son is a renowned pianist who is in the midst of a gradual return to the global stage. She develops an immediate fondness for Chiaki upon their first meeting, which triggers jealousy and insecurity in Nodame. Nodame worries that her own performance level cannot match Chiaki’s expectations, a concern exacerbated when Rui’s fame inadvertently hinders several opportunities for Nodame to play alongside him. Rui eventually chooses to study music in Paris, facing resistance from her supportive but controlling mother, who urges her to focus on high-profile public performances instead. Although technically proficient, Rui feels her playing lacks the distinctive style and depth found in Nodame’s performances, driving her to seek out those elements to enhance her own musical capabilities.
